Inner Child Healing is a successful form of therapy that aims to take the patient back to childhood and repair damage done. The theory that there is an ‘Inner Child’ in each of us is held by many therapists. The child you once were does not simply disappear as you become an adult.
Many children experience trauma in childhood: violence and sexual abuse, bullying and neglect, abandonment by parents, and problems coping with grief after the death of a loved one are possible traumatic events. Our natural reaction to such events is to hide them inside us, trying to forget.
Yet the emotional scars of those traumas remain within us with the Inner Child. They form the emotional baggage we talked about above. They are barriers to understanding who we are and how we can move forward.
Trauma in childhood has a profound effect on you as an adult. Abuse and neglect leave you feeling you are ‘worthless’ and prevent you from believing in yourself. Inner Child Healing will take you back to the trauma, and the Therapist will then show you how to overcome the barriers holding you back.
