Life is about changes, yet some profoundly affect how we see ourselves. Losing a loved one and the grieving that follows is a life-changing event. Psychologists acknowledge five stages of grief:
1 – Denial – in which a person cannot accept that their loved one is gone.
2 – Anger – the individual is angry that the death has impacted their life.
3 – Bargaining – at this stage, they will strive to do anything to make things better.
4 – Depression – sadness and depression are distinct, and the person will become depressed and question the point of existence.
5 – Acceptance – the final realization that death is inevitable and everything will go as before.
The problem lies in getting beyond step 4 and acknowledging step 5. At IHTherapy we help Indigenous people through the stages using various techniques, and we believe in talking as the primary therapeutic method.
By getting your emotions out in words – whether written or spoken – we can help you overcome death. Therapists understand that grief does not go away; you must learn how to deal with it. This is not something we are taught; it is something that a professional can help you with.
We can guide you through the dangerous phase of depression and help you adapt emotionally, so please get in touch, and we’ll arrange a consultation.
Yet, when you tell your stories, you will start unravelling life’s complexity and uncover the root of your problems. The past stays with us until you learn how to shed your past traumas
